The Four Steps To The Commemoration Of A Lifetime…
Selecting the desired tribute or memorial service Selecting the casket suitable for the tribute Selecting the cemetery Adding meaning through special personal selections
Funeral Service Tributes
Traditional Funeral
Many families find comfort in a gathering with viewing followed by a funeral service, this is usually held at your church or we can arrange the location for you. The viewing can either be held the night before or a few hours prior to the funeral. The funeral usually will conclude at the cemetery with a brief prayer or maybe military honors.
Graveside Service
Many families also like the simplicity of a graveside service. The family and friends would meet at the cemetery, the actual service would take place at the grave location or at a covered pavilion. The service can include the same as a church service but in an outdoor setting.
Immediate Burial
There are some families that do not wish to have a formal service. An immediate burial is where the funeral home staff would accompany the decedent to the cemetery for burial and notify the family when completed, or the immediate family may witness. The cemetery and funeral establishment normally selects the day and time.
Casket Selection
Wood Or Metal Casket
When the family makes the selection of the casket there are many factors that will help determine their decision. Wood caskets offer the warmth and beauty of a natural resource, along with many species of woods to choose from. Metal caskets offer durability and the option of color and types of metal. Which ever you select, it is a personal preference.
Selecting The Cemetery
When selecting a cemetery, the first cosideration is usually the proximity to your home. Other factors that may influence the selection of the cemetery are the maintenence and appearance of the grounds, availablility of sections or plots, and also the cost. If you are a Veteran, you may want to consider V. A. National Cemeteries, they will provide the burial at no cost to you. The two local V.A. National Cemeteries are the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery located in Dixon, CA and the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery located in Gustine, CA.
Adding Meaning Through Special Personal Selections
When personalizing a service there are many options to consider, the location, speakers, music, photo tributes, personal items for display, flowers, customizing the casket, military honors or dove release at the cemetery. Talk with family and friends to get ideas, make it a commemoration of a lifetime.
